Flashback: TWB START-UP DAY 2021
A renewed success for the 4th edition of TWB START-UP DAY “Industrial Biotechnology: What are we up to?”. The event, which took place on 2 & 3 February 2021 in 100 % digital and live, brought together 13 exceptional speakers and 225 international professionals in the field representing 15 countries.
13 international speakers have contributed on different themes: sustainability, biotech & circularity, data & artificial intelligence. These talks highlighted the current issues and future stakes of industrial biotechnology and the synergies that are being created to help develop of an eco-responsible, more efficient and connected industry.
About sixty start-ups (EnobraQ, PILI, Aruru Molecular Ltd, Agridees, BGene, e-Zyvec, Gene&GreenTK, iMEAN, m2p-labs, Cell-easy, Aviwell, Syngulon, Enginzyme, Protifly, BioC3, Naturamole …), industrial groups (Adisseo, L’Oréal, Total, Roquette, Michelin, Leaf-Lesaffre, Givaudan, Toyobo, Chanel, Twist Bioscience, Kerry…), investors (Sofinnova Partners, IRDInov SORIDEC GESTION, BASF Venture Capital, Novo Holdings, Demeter…), professionals from biotech innovation and promotion structures and consulting firms as well as academic researchers, were able to benefit from these high-quality presentations.
BtoB video meetings were offered throughout these two days thanks to the implementation of a dedicated tool. 95 virtual meetings were held and more than 1000 messages were exchanged on the platform.
In this new edition, two competitions were proposed: one to entrepreneurs with “Go for it! “and the other to established start-ups in the field of industrial biotech with “Fast track it! ». They allowed 10 pre-selected start-ups from 5 different European countries to present their project in front of two experts jurys. The winners of these contests are: the Swiss start-up Fluosphera for the first contest and the Spanish start-up ZYMVOL for the second.
Statistics of TWB START-UP DAY
Among the participants of this 4th edition, the first in digital:
- 25% were international;
- 46% were women;
- 26% were startuppers & 21% were from industrial groups;
- 62% attended sessions on both days.
Thanks to the participants who responded to the survey sent after the event! More than 70% of the voters were satisfied with the sessions (conferences and contests) of the 2021 edition. The information gathered will help consolidate the strengths and work on the weaknesses of the event.
The event, acclaimed by Toulouse Métropole and la Région Occitanie, benefited from promotion by partners from the IAR Cluster, La French Tech Toulouse and ShakeUp Factory and the sponsorship of Plasseraud IP, CARBIOS, Michelin, Sofinnova Partners, m2p-labs, Inscripta and the Agri Sud Ouest Innovation Cluster.
